The ‘New Rules of Registering’ - at Bloomingdales

I’ve mentioned a few places where you can and/or should consider having your bridal registry. Today, I want to add to the list. While you may know that large stores have registered, Bloomingdale’s Directory of Registry Joanna Kartalis wants you to know why she would love to have you experience ‘the new rules of registering’.

Joanna I know you are in one of the busiest times of the year at the store and especially at the registry, so thank you for your time. Ok, let’s get straight to it. What are the 'hot pieces' that people are putting on their registry this year and what do you think they can pass on?

The ‘New Rules of Registering’ means there are no essentials! This is your chance to design your home to be a reflection of your style as a couple.

More and more, we are seeing couples mixing and matching their table settings. Gone are the days of using one formal place setting every time you set your table. The New Rules of the Registry is all about breaking the old rules and creating a table that reflects your own style and the way you entertain. Change the look of your china for each type of event by using a different charger or colorful accent plates.

  • Decorative pieces like vases and bowls accessorize your furniture, like jewelry does for your wardrobe. Lighting like votives, candlesticks, pillar candles and hurricanes truly pull the look together and set the mood whether you're entertaining or in for a cozy night at home.
  • If you love family photos, register for a selection of frames that are both interesting and work with your decor.
  • Remember that your guests will want to give you items that you love, so register for a variety of price points so that your guests have lots to choose from!
  • Couples today are different than their parents – many are more mature and established in their careers and/or lifestyles when they wed. Others are just starting out and need the basics. The important thing is that the couple chooses gifts that will work for THEIR lifestyle.

The registry is about more than the wedding bliss – it’s about accumulating the things that will help you live the good life – everyday.

What are busiest times of the year that you see the spike in bridal registries?

You’re right Lisa, this is a very busy time at the registry. We find that there is a spike right after the holidays - when engagements are most common. We see our biggest volume in January, February and March. June and September are also popular months.

So when and what should they register for?

Couples should register as soon as they get engaged. Many friends and family members will want to start congratulating the couple even before they have announced any specific dates, and they want to be sure that they have the ability to make your gift something special, something you'll always remember, something you truly want!!

Bloomies is more then just a registry, what makes you so special?
