I know there are some guys that want the ‘traditional’ bachelor party and there’s nothing wrong with that. However, I would like to share with you some alternatives that I'm sure your future bride would love for you to consider.
If you want to have a sophisticated night, then consider these locations:
Brandy Library – This is where the perfect dram of top-shelf libation is for serious drinkers of fine spirits. Their selection is mind-blowing as the bookshelves are stocked with bottles and the sommeliers will help you re-fine your taste buds or at least help you pick out something almost as special as your fiancée.
If you enjoy a good cigar and are looking for a place where you can still smoke:
Carnegie Club – The club has retro wood paneling, and is truly one of the last sanctuaries where you can legally enjoy a smoke. Yes it’s a lounge, but its also a great place just to have a drink with the boys and a good stoggie.
Club Macanudo is another haven of leather chairs and big cigars. Martini, scotch and cigar drinkers unite. A bit more formal than Carnegie, so wear a jacket and experience the moment.
For the sports lover or lover of games:
ESPN Zone - Nothing could be sweeter than the big lounge chair, in your private room watching your favorite team playing your favorite sport. Food, beer and hours of fun. Sounds like a ideal party to me.
If you are looking for sports and a bit of hip-hop flavor:
40/40 Club – This club is the platinum taste of co-owner Jay-Z where there are lots of flat screen TVs, and the perfect cognac lounge upstairs for your private party. You never know what celeb may just pop-in to see where the party’s at.
If you want to be a cowboy in the big city:
Johnny Utah’s – Once you have a few, you can make your way to the mechanical bull. Try your best to ride it or just hang out with some good food, good beer, and good friends.
I hope this list gives you some different ideas on how to celebrate your bachelor party. If you have any unique ideas or suggestions, email me at bridalease@gmail.com and let me know. For more information check them out:

Dogeared Jewels & gifts - creates wedding day magic and good vibes
Posted by Yours In Bridal
There are so many gift ideas for your bridal party, but today I want to focus on Dogeared Jewels & gifts. This company along with its creative team has for the last 18 years combined their passion to spread good energy, and passion with the world. They have several pieces in their line that is dedicated to the causes they believe in. In other words, your gift will truly be the gift that keeps giving. Today, let’s take a look at both there Bridal and “Green Patch” line of products.
I love being able to bring you a new opportunity to keep ‘green’ and share beauty with your bridal party. Beth Hinckley, is a member of Dogeared and she spoke to be about their new initiative.
Can you tell me more about the 'green patch' - why did you do this line, tell me about your best sellers?
Green patch is our eco-friendly shopping destination. Dogeared makes every effort to make our products in the most earth-friendly was as possible (part of that is making everything in the USA!) This area of our website highlights some of those products.
Some our bestsellers are the tote bags made of natural and organic cotton, the candles, in recycled tin, and the super fabulous hipster made from organic cotton.
Also, our new notebooks have been really popular--- they are made out of repurposed leather and recycled paper.
What else would you want to share with a bride who is looking to be environmentally friendly?
All of our sterling silver is 100% recycled! Also, making all our products in the USA uses a much smaller carbon footprint than shipping from Asia. We have also have re-designed our boxes to use less materials and use recycled materials.
I love the new Bridal section you have on your website. Why would a bride want to give your product as a gift to her bridal party vs. another kind of product and which would you recommend?
Dogeared loves brides! And Dogeared is all about celebrating the special times and the special people in our lives. Our gifts are treasures that will last way beyond the special day and serve as lovely reminders of the wedding day. We have also designed our collections with brides in mind and have listened to what they want for their celebration.
Some of our popular items for brides and bridal parties are:
Pearls of....beauty, friendship, love.... necklaces and earrings. Healing Gem bracelets and necklaces in different sizes --- great colors to match the wedding colors we just brought back our Something Blue glass heart that has many uses. Also, our Make A Wish charms are always a favorite. Popular gifts are also our recycled sterling Pocket Angels.
As for me, there are some really unique and beautiful housewarming gifts or other ‘couple’ orientated gifts you can give such as:
House Blessings – These are really whimsical pieces that are meant to be hung in the house….Angel at your door (which is great for a bit of ‘extra’ protection as you begin start your new home; Lucky Horseshoe…so your home is filled with love, laughter and peace. They also have great ‘lil’ zip bags that are great to give to your bridal party.
Finally and in full disclosure, I’ve been wearing their necklace for about 2 years and can say that I get compliments all the time on how pretty my bamboo or dragon is. What I love is that they seem to ‘float’ on my neck and all you see is the gem. Perfect for those of you who want nothing to take away from your gown. Because they have so many to choose from, I think that will be your biggest problem. No matter what, I’m sure that it will be perfect and will help you, to create more magic in your life.

Bottlerocket Wine and Spirit a great space for your bridal event or anytime
Posted by Yours In Bridal
The summer makes me think of picnics in the park, great food and a wonderful bottle of crisp white wine. It also made me think of being with my girlfriends trying new wines and just how much fun that is. So why not have a wine tasting for your wedding shower or engagement party?
I happened upon Bottlerocket Wine and Spirit, a wine specialty shop located in the heart of the village. I spoke with Melissa Hall, the events manager at Bottlerocket and she assured me that they have hosted several wedding related events at this location.
Here is a bit from our conversation:
Melissa says: Generally speaking, we serve brides/couples that have an interest in wine or just want to add an element of fun and elegance to their events. Some examples include:
* Bridal showers aimed at making all generations of the brides' family and friends comfortable. We have done events with all sparkling wines and cupcakes, or a mix of wines selected from the country where the couple is honeymooning.
* Bachelorette parties (or pre-parties) we will pair yummy wines/specialty cocktails with hors d’oeuvres. This is great for all guests to come together and get to know each other in a tasteful and fun environment.
* Wine Tasting between the ceremony and the reception is a new opportunity to make your reception stand out from all the others. The bride and groom will chose wine with Melissa beforehand and then Bottlerocket will lead a tasting of the wines that the bride and groom love, with their wedding guests. The guests are entertained during this generally slow downtime and can then enjoy their favorite wine during the wedding. Totally Cool!!
* If you are thinking of giving a wonderful personalized and unique gift to a wine-loving couple then choose the “Private Wine Tasting” event that we have especially for the bride and groom. The couple gets a one-on-one session with a Tasting Leader focusing on a subject of interest. It is a romantic and unique gift. While this can be expensive, if the office chips in, it’s a great group gift. (Budget starts at $375).
For all couples that are interested in purchasing specialty wines, this company has a great selection of organic, biodynamic and environmentally sustainable wines. You know how much I love a good eco-find!! A wedding registry of wines and spirits can be opened at the 1 year, 5 year and 10 year anniversaries or compiled "starter cellars" giving the gift of daily wine pleasure.
To book an on-site event, the prices begin at $700 for about 20 people and average about $900. Offsite events start at about $340 (for approximately 15 people) for wine and a Tasting Leader. Personally, I think the later is a great bargain especially if you have a small bridal party. If anyone wants to start a gift of wine for me, your favorite bridal fairy god-mother…just kidding.
Bottlerocket Wine and Spirit is located at 5 West 19th Street – 212.929.2323 http://www.bottlerocketwine.com/shop/

With so many photographers, how do you choose?
Posted by Yours In BridalRecently I was asked by one of my readers “With so many photographers out there, everyone claiming to be ‘great’, how do you decide?” This is a great question and honestly I will say that it’s all about taste. Some couples may want the traditional “portrait” type of wedding album, while others want a more journalistic style. Still others want a mix. What I’ll say is this is, in my opinion the most important decision after your dress, because this is what is capturing the memories of the day.
Let’s start at the beginning…
1 – Do you have your location picked out yet?? This is by far the most important first step you should do. This, I promise will be one of the first questions they ask you.
2 – Ask the venue if they have any recommended photographers? This might come in handy if you have a ‘hard to shoot’ venue (like the Brooklyn Botanical Garden – not every photographer knows how to shoot when a venue is wall-to-wall glass – think too much flash/glare)
3 – Ask your friends who are married if they loved, not liked but LOVED their photographer. Take a look at their wedding album. Does it have the feel you are looking for? How clear are the photos?
4 – What is your photography budget? Is this the most important part of your wedding and are you willing to spend more for this than other parts of your wedding (i.e. are you willing to spend more here than for the band, your flowers, or reception)?
After this, when you start interviewing and I do me interviewing photographers, these are some questions you should ask AND be comfortable with their answer.
1. Who exactly will be photographing your wedding? Will it be him/her, or an assistant? If someone other than the lead photographer, ask to meet their assistant.
2. Ask to see proofs and a finished album. They all have them and if they don’t leave immediately!
3. Are the pictures clear or grainy? If grainy is what you’re looking for then great, but in my experience, your pictures are supposed to be crystal clear with no grainy texture or fuzzy look.
4. Find out what his/her approach to shooting a wedding is?
5. What is his/her typical shooting schedule?
6. How many shoots will be ‘posed’ or ‘candid’?
7. How many shoots will he take of the entire day?
8. What will happen if he/she gets sick the day of your wedding?
9. Ask to see the albums for the various packages, and ask what it covers? If there is an album that is in a ‘higher priced’ package, can you just purchase that album and what is the additional fee? What are the costs of parents’ books (if you decide to get them)?
10. Ask him/her to describe the most difficult wedding they have shoot in their wedding career. Ask what was the final outcome
11. How long will they keep negatives on file?
12. What kind of camera will they use? Is it film or digital?
13. Can you have a mix of black/white and color photos? (If this is done in digital this should be no problem and there shouldn’t be any additional charge for it). How many pictures will be in my finished album?
14. How long after your wedding will you get proofs? Will they download all the proofs for you to have? There is absolutely no reason for a photographer to keep your proofs indefinitely and there shouldn’t be a charge for them. If your photographer is trying to charge you
15. Get some references from recent (I mean 6mon-1yr) couples. This way you can find out if they were to do it again – would they use the same photogrpher.
Finally –
What does your gut say? Do you feel comfortable with this person? Did you pick this person because of their ‘name’ or because you think they will capture your day?
Remember even if every person has a camera, there will be only 1 official wedding book. This is what you will live with for the rest of your life so you have to be sure of the person you pick - well as sure as you can be. Don’t let anyone pressure you to making a decision immediately. Like choosing your partner, you are going to spend the rest of your life with this decision so, take your time.

Grooms, it's operation get you married
Posted by Yours In BridalOk gentlemen..D minus 7 and counting. Are you beginning to break out in a sweat yet?
Your future wife has gone through the roller-coaster of emotions this entire time and you’ve stayed cool and calm. Now your wedding is just days away and maybe you're beginning to feel, well a bit stressed as well. Never fear, here are some suggestions that can help you prepare. If you forget something, don’t worry…well as long as you remember to say “I Do”, you’re 99% there.
I’m sure you were put in charge of these things so make sure you double, no triple check:
Honeymoon reservations are confirmed. That means, how are you getting to the airport, train station or boat; how are you then getting to the hotel.
Did you pack? What are you waiting for do it now. Don’t forget your vitamins, medicines, and at least one nice outfit for a special dinner with your new ‘wife’.
Pick up travelers checks, or at least make sure that your credit card has a large balance so you can purchase mementos. Remember if you use your credit card, you can get reward points to use later.
Do you and your groomsmen have your tuxes picked up or are you going to do it the night before? Make sure everyone is on board for this.
If you are having a ‘swing’ bachelor party, do yourself and your bride a favor and do it at least 2 days BEFORE your wedding. Nothing looks worse than a groom with bags under his eyes, slurred speech, and reeking of alcohol. Trust me, that is NOT a good way to start your life together.
Where are your rings? If you forget everything else, don’t forget these.
A really sweet thing is to sneak off with your bride-to-be, and have a last ‘date’ as single people – that is together!! It can be a picnic, maybe a movie, or a crazy dinner at your favorite place, but it’s just to two of you. She will LOVE THIS, and you will get major points for being so considerate.
Were you put in charge of any vendors (photographer, transportation, band/DJ)? Make sure they know the day/time and everything is all set.
Finally,
Ask your future wife, if there is anything you can do to help. At first she may be shocked and she may even say no, but the act of you caring will cement in her heart that she is marrying a partner for life.0 comments Labels: Groom, planning, wedding planning

Making your wedding more 'symbolic'
Posted by Yours In BridalMusic is usually used, to mark the beginning and end of a wedding ceremony. You may wish to add an opening and closing ritual as well. These rituals provide another way to include special people in the ceremony as honored assistants.
Water Ceremony
In some Native American communities, drinking from a goblet of water sanctifies the union. Water is a basic element, without which there would be no life. A two spouted water jug designed for this purpose may be used. The Wedding Jar is then displayed in the home as a reminder of one's vows.
Water may also be used in a ceremonial washing of hands to purify them, before uniting one's hands in marriage with another person. It's another way of saying "I wash away my past and begin 'clean' with you."
The Wedding Contract
In Biblical times, and in contemporary Judaism, as well, a wedding contract or "ketubah", is signed during the ceremony. Essentially, the contract is a written copy of the wedding vows. In Biblical times, it included the dowry and other family agreements, but contemporary ones are more spiritual/emotional and less practical. There are many on-line sources that offer both traditional and contemporary ketubahs, or you can make your own. Each partner signs the contract during the ceremony, and it is displayed in their home during their marriage.
The Tea Ceremony
Originating in the Orient, the tea ceremony represents a partner (traditionally the bride) honoring her new in-laws. The bride pours tea for the in-laws with a promise to honor them as she does her own family of origin. By serving them tea, she serves and honors their family.
Jumping The Broom
"Jumping the broom" is a charming African-American tradition reminiscent of the historical manner in which couples were united under slavery, when wedding ceremonies were not allowed. Partners jump over a broom to signify their new status as a married couple within their community of friends and family. The broom can be decorated for the wedding day, if you wish.
Breaking The Glass(es)
Another ancient Jewish custom that can be incorporated beautifully into interfaith weddings is the "Breaking of the Glass". At the end of a Jewish wedding, after the pronouncement of the new status as a married couple, the groom traditionally stomps on a wine glass wrapped in a cloth napkin or towel. It is said "Just as it would be impossible to return the glass to its original condition, the lives of the wedding couple are forever changed." The popping noise marks the end of the ceremony and the beginning of the new life together. Immediately afterward, the guests break out into a joyous chorus of "Mazel Tov" (Congratulations).
Circling
In traditional Jewish, Greek Orthodox, and Hindu traditions, there are customs where the bride circles her groom, or both partners circle each other. In the Hindu tradition, both partners circle the sacred fire.
Sand Ceremony
The Sand Ceremony represents the joining of two lives into a new dimension of unity. It is similar to the Unity Candle ceremony. Instead of each partner having their own candle, each partner has a vial of sand which represents their childhood and life before marriage. During the ceremony, each partner pours his or her sand into a larger vial to represent their new status as a married couple. Some couples use two different colors of sand, which make a third color when joined.
Unity Candle
Although this ceremony is not historically Christian, it has become very popular in contemporary Christian and Interfaith weddings. Three candles are placed on the altar. The two side candles are each lit (sometimes by the parents of each partner) representing the individual lives of each partner. The center candle is lit by both partners during the ceremony, signifying their new life together as "One"
The Veiling and Unveiling of the Bride
Traditional American Christian weddings include the unveiling of the bride after the father of the bride escorts her down the aisle and she is "given away" to her groom. The unveiling is reminiscent of the Biblical story of Jacob, Rachel and Leah. Jacob worked for Lavon for seven years to earn the right to marry Lavon's daughter Rachel. When it was time for the wedding, Rachel veiled herself as a sign of modesty, as was popular at the time. Lavon then veiled his other daughter Leah and tricked Jacob into marrying the wrong daughter. Jacob had to work another seven years before Lavon would agree to give him his other daughter Rachel. By unveiling the bride before she exchanges vows, the groom is sure to be marrying the correct woman!
You know the saying, "Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue” is a popular rhyme that has been used since Victorian times. The "something old" represents the bond to the bride's family and her old life; "something new" represents the couple's new life together and their future hope for happiness, prosperity and success; "something borrowed" from a happily married woman is meant to impart similar happiness to the bride; and "something blue" represents fidelity and constancy.
No matter what ritual you decide to include use a symbol that is meaningful to you both.

Environmentally friendly honeymoon tips and ideas
Posted by Yours In BridalIn the past, many considered an 'eco-friendly honeymoon' to be camping, or frankly, couldn't begin to imagine what this would mean. So often the word 'honeymoon' immediately creates a vision of beaches, fruity drinks and pure comfort. Well times have changed and the image of eco-honeymoons are changing with it. There are hotels, spas and travel companies that are now specializing for this growing population. Here are some tips to consider when planning for this special time.
For your honeymoon – timing is absolutely everything. Did you know that ‘timing your vacation’ to be on the slightly off (called shoulder) weeks can save you money?? It seems that 'shoulder weeks' are considered the few weeks right before and after peak season for your particular destination. Ask your travel agent, or call your desired location directly and ask them what are their ‘non-peak seasons.’ This can save you up to 50%.
What to fly, what is the price, where is my seat – oh my! When you booked your reservations in the past, Saturday night stays saved money. Now that’s not necessarily true. Use some of the search engines like kayak.com, cheaptickets.com, lastminute.com, dohop.com, tripadvisor.com, sidestep.com, or farecompare.com to help you find savings on your travel and hotels.
Only the wizard know for sure until now. Have you heard of yapta.com or farecast.com? Both of these sites will send you price drop alerts on your flights and hotels. Farecast.com even has a ‘price prediction’ screen so you can actually plan well into the future for your travel. Of course once you find your flight, use Seatguru.com to pick your seat location (especially good if you or your partner is tall). Hmm, now that I think of it, some airlines are now charging for exit rows, so keep this in mind.
Will that be Cash, Amex, MC or Visa? One of the best and easiest ways is to pay for everything is with your credit cards. I know you may not want to incur more debt, but think of the ‘points’. You can earn everything from flyer points, to cash back. It’s also a great insurance (see your individual cards for their travel policies). Also make sure that you have airline and hotel rewards cards so you can collect points that way as well. You may not think of it as a big deal, but points add up and that could be a free mini-trip for you both.
You want a honeymoon destination that gives back? I Do Foundation is a site that does give back. If you book your honeymoon using their site, they will ensure that a portion of your total price will be donated directly to the charity of your choice.
Let’s get your hands dirty on your honeymoon? I do know a few couples that just might like this. Why not consider a volunteer organization like Cross Cultural Solutions where you are actually working with people who can immediately benefit from your time in their country. Build a house, school or dig a well. If climate change, or the coral reefs is more your passion, then earthwatch.org, is the organization for you. Hey don’t forget we have lots of national parks right here in the US – in NY we have the Central Park Conservancy and I know they can always use a hand (if you want to stay closer to home).
There will be a listing of hotels, tourism offices and more in the coming weeks. Here’s hoping that this is a start and gives you some ideas on being more eco-fab and having eco-fun during your honeymoon.
Until next time...

The Franklin Hotel – warm, personalized, welcoming wedding boutique hotel
Posted by Yours In BridalThe Franklin Hotel which is a Willow Hotel property is not like any of the other properties. From the moment before the moment you enter, you are transported from the Upper East Side, to a villa in the South of France. This gem of a hotel has all the modern services: wireless Internet, 24-hr cappuccino/espresso, European Buffet Breakfast, Wine & Artisanal Cheese Reception and they are Pet Friendly. I know…what more can you ask for right?
I met with manager Jason Mancuso, the general manager of the hotel. He along with his charming staff, made me feel welcomed, but it was as if I was at an intimate bed and breakfast a world away. A friendly staff and attentive manager are an absolute bonus especially in the middle of a busy city.
The Franklin bride is a carefree, woman who enjoys Europe, fine wine, simplicity and romance. With 50 rooms, each uniquely designed, you will be able to relax either before or after your wedding here. Just block away from shopping and museum row, your guests will have something to see and do should they come before or stay after your wedding.
Making sure that attention to the smallest detail is attended to, you don’t have to worry. Jason explained to me “Putting ourselves in the minds of our guests, we want to make their experience memorable. I believe this attention to detail is why we have numerous repeat guests. For example, we realize that after a long day of shopping or touring they may want a ‘snack’, so we offer a complimentary wine and cheese selection in the afternoon so they can relax. We want our guests to feel as if they are at home.”
I will say that as I was speaking with Jason, a guest overheard our conversation and said that it was their 4th time in NY and they have been back to the Franklin hotel 3 times because of the care and family-feeling they received each and every time.
The Franklin is so popular yet ‘hidden’, don’t be surprised if you are riding the elevator and see a celebrity or two. Compared to some of the other hotels where you can have your actual ceremony and reception, this is not available at this hotel. However, if you wanted to have a pre or post wedding cocktail reception for your bridal party, bridal shower or tea, this is perfect. In addition, if you are looking for a hotel for your guests (and have 50 rooms being booked) you can rent the entire hotel. How Cool is THAT?! Yes, your own private hotel on the Upper East Side.
The three words that can be associated with this hotel are: personalized, warm and welcoming. After spending time with Jason and his staff, I know I didn’t want to leave.
(Willow Properties also own the Shoreham and The Mansfield Hotels)

After 9,999 roses, you would say YES too!
Posted by Yours In Bridal
Talk about romantic! A gentleman in East China decided that that his proposal to his girlfriend would be uniquely unforgettable by using 9,999 real red roses! The actual proposal took place in the room of a very popular hotel but the excitement started way before. Hundreds of roses were displayed in the shape of a heart on the grass on the way to the hotel and friends held huge bouquets of roses at every floor to welcome his blushing bride-to-be. Inside the room, hundreds of flowers and petals were beautifully arranged to create his masterpiece. As expected, the girlfriend said "yes".
For the record, 9,999 roses equals 833 dozen!

Functionalab Beauty - an aid to good wedding health and beauty
Posted by Yours In BridalThere are so many different ways to get in shape for your wedding, but I want to share with you, the ways that I find which are healthy. I am NOT telling you to loose weight. I think you’ll look beautiful no matter what your size. What I am saying is IF you are looking for a way to be healthy, you should look at a potion control, exercise and vitamins. For a product that is tailored to your unique body (type, stress level, what you are looking to do, what you want to achieve) then this is the product for you.
I had a wonderful opportunity to speak with Nathalie Pelletier, the Director of Nutrition and Training for Functionalab. This is what she shared with me.
A bride should consider Functionalab because our approach is to 100% personalize their regimen, making sure it's perfect for their health and beauty needs. Before suggesting any supplements, a Beauty Nutritionist (all licensed in USA, as either registered dietitian or nutritionist) will use a computerized program to identify the main health and beauty issues of the bride and will support her in providing a tailored supplement plan to reach optimal health & beauty objectives.
In addition, the Functionalab portfolio is the most complete you can find in the market and the extremely high quality of their product is unquestionable. They use high quality sources with optimal potency and do not add any extra fillers to their product.
A personalized nutrition program is very important. In meeting nutrient needs, a one-size-fits-all approach might not be the ideal for everyone. In addition to specific needs related to gender and age, a person’s individual needs are based on such factors as genetics, disease state, stress, and activity levels. If we consider all the stress incurred while planning for a wedding, it is evident that supporting the bride with an optimized personalized supplement plan will only allow her to better enjoy this very important day in her life.
Every bride wants to look her best on the day of her wedding, so it is important to remember that health and beauty are inseparable. The Functionalab Beauty Doses provide essential nutrients to optimize the look of your skin, hair and nails. These nutrients nourish not only your skin from inside, they are also essential nutrients to support optimal health. Of course, topical beauty creams also often contain nutrients, such as antioxidants, which can provide certain benefits, but oral dietary supplements and topical creams will have different effects. As we’ve discussed, nutrition is fundamental to all processes of the body and, therefore, addressing the body’s nutrient needs with a good diet and dietary supplements will have a broader, more far-reaching effect than a topical beauty cream.A good diet is the foundation for optimal health and exercising as well. In addition to a personalized supplement plan, the Functionalab beauty-nutritionist will also provide the bride with adequate nutritional and lifestyle recommendations. Further, the Functionalab beauty-nutritionist will follow up with her clients via e-mail and is available by phone or email for any questions and concerns. Functionalab is the most holistic approach you will currently find available in this market!
Simone was my nutritional consultant (she is a registered nutritionist) and really knowledgeable. I think what I really like about the program is that they send you a direct link to a nutritionist so if you have questions, then can be answered. It’s not “you buy the product and then good luck”. They want you to succeed and that is worth the price. Go and check out Functionalab Beauty at Henri Bendel. (Grooms – they have a product for you too – getting in shape isn’t only for the women in your life!!) For now, they are in the front until their permanent home in the store is finished.
Let me know what you think about their product. Until next time, I wish you good health.
Your bridal fairy godmother.

Weddings 101 - Destination Island Weddings: beauty, warm breezes and a cost-saving alternative
Posted by Yours In BridalCan we talk – Honestly?? The economy is really a bummer and to worry about planning your wedding, the stress of having a job (or even keeping your job) is probably creating havoc on you and your partner. Then again, maybe you’ve decided to take the pressure off and do a destination wedding. Why not? This way all you have to do is pick your bridal party, tell them where, when and then you all arrive.
I have some of my own personal favorites, but each island in the Caribbean, British Virgin Island and the US Virgin Islands all offer beauty, picturesque locations, hotels, villas and best of all, the opportunity to have warm weather and sunshine (something we’ve not seen a lot of here in NY lately).
As quickly as I can write them, you’ll be getting the true 411 on islands like: Aruba, Anguila, Turks & Caicos, Antigua & Barbuda, Dominican Republic, Nassau, Curacao and a few more of some of the most beautiful and in some cases “hidden” islands of the Caribbean.
To help you with your planning you will need to make sure some of the following questions are answered. Remember, you don’t want any (additional) last minute problems. Also when you are booking your wedding with the hotel, find out what is included. If you don’t ask, you may not find out.
1 - Do you need to file a ‘Notice of Intent to Marry’ with the registrar on the island? What is the cost?2 – Do you want a civil ceremony or religious one? Who will perform the ceremony, and what is needed (ie, if Jewish, you may need a letter from your home synagogue or cantor)?
3 – How do you get there?? This may seem obvious, but remember quite a few of the islands you have to take either a puddle-jumper or ferry to the island after flying to a larger port. For example to get to Jost Van Dyke I had to land in St. Thomas and then a ferry to the island.
4 – Is there another event on the island the same time as your wedding? Remember supply/demand costs. So if there is a Jazz Festival or the Regatta race, you may pay more for your wedding and your guests more for their airfare/hotel.
5 – If you are allowing children to attend, is there something/someone to take care of them while their parents enjoy the ceremony?
6 – Has the island a successful record of having weddings?
7 – What happens if there is an ‘Act of God’ (hurricane, the location burns down, power-outage), or you decide to cancel the ceremony (due to change of date or change your mind about getting married)? Do you need to take out extra insurance to re-coop some of the money spent that you may/may not be able to get back? How does the hotel deal with hurricane season?
8 – If this is a second-marriage do you need your divorce decree or if widowed, the death certificate?
9 – Is there a waiting period? Some islands have everything from 3-day residency to 30 Days. No that is NOT a typo – Make sure you find these things out.
10 – May sound silly but unless you and your guests are conversational, is this an island where English is spoken? Remember to respect the people, language and culture of the islands; after all, you are on THEIR turf.
11 – Do they have an on-site wedding coordinator or do you have to ‘hire’ one?
12 – What comes with their wedding package? Does it include music, photographer, will they take care of all the paper work for you so you don’t have to?
13 – If you choose to bring your own wedding coordinator, photographer, how much will that add to your wedding expense? Do they stay at the same property or is there a ‘less-expensive’ hotel near by?
14 – If you are getting married “off-property” will they provide transportation if you are having your reception there? If not how do you find reliable transportation?
15 – Do they have any package deals that you are not aware of? This may mean additional savings to you and/or your guests.
As I go through all the information, from all the islands, if there are any special “keys” I’ll highlight them. Some are very eco-friendly, some are all-inclusive and even a private island that I absolutely love. I will say that I’ve been very fortunate to travel a great deal and if I had to pick an island, it would be a difficult choice. However, keep in mind that you can always renew your vows, get married on one and honeymoon on another. You can always find a new island each year and re-confirm your love over and over again.

Top 5 tips to be and stay in shape for your wedding and beyond
Posted by Yours In BridaliPhone and iPod
Ok, so I don’t know if or when we will have a even a real summer, but don’t let that stop you from getting in the best shape possible. Declan Condron, the co-creator and exercise physiologist of PumpOne FitnessBuilder, has given me his Top 5 Tips to be- and stay- bikini ready this summer! He also has a FREE Offer for you.
Declan gives these top 5 tips to be and stay bikini ready:
1. Try to do something everyday: no matter how simple it may seem. This does not necessarily mean you have to be at the gym everyday for hours. By making some smart decisions you can add in exercise in short spurts throughout the day, like taking the stairs.
2. Don’t get caught in the "Spot Reduction" rut: spot reduction does not exist. It refers to the idea that if you do a ton of exercises for a certain body part, it will become beautifully sculpted. There is no such thing! The best way to lose weight and gain muscle tone is to perform a total body-conditioning program and eat a healthy diet.
3. Focus on a small goal: don’t psych yourself out by trying to lose 25 pounds. Concentrate on a smaller number like losing 1 to 2 clothing sizes. It makes a huge difference!
4. Avoid those tasty summer thirst quenchers: come summer, people break out the blenders and mixes to whip up margaritas and daiquiris. But all that sugar and alcohol can play a very detrimental role in losing weight and gaining muscle. You have to realize that alcohol is empty calories with no nutritional value. It also can increase fluid retention, which leads to bloating. Bloating is the last thing you want when in a bathing suit or in your wedding dress!
5. Don’t stick to the same workout: have an “all-round conditioning program” that includes strength training, cardio and flexibility training. An ideal plan has three days of strength training, two-three days of cardio, and stretching as often as possible.
Now for the Freebie.

Twobirds Bridesmaid - sexy, stylish and the dress every bridemaid wants
Posted by Yours In BridalGone are the days of truly ugly bridesmaids gowns – Thank God!! I remember having to wear this truly ugly black/white polyester bridesmaids gown to a cousin’s wedding. I was never so uncomfortable in my life. I swore that I would never do that to my bridesmaids when I got married. I’m sure you’ve had your share of ugly or just too expensive dresses as well. With “twobirds bridesmaid” your girls will love you because the dresses are amazing, reasonable and the best part – they can and will want to wear them again and again.
Ariane Goldman is the owner and designer extraordinaire of “Twobirds Bridesmaid” and like her staff, an amazing person to work with.
What are the 'hot' types of gowns/dresses are girls asking for (either type of material (cotton, silk) style, shape etc.)?
Women want to be comfortable and chic these days so something that is more of a silk, soft fabric that drapes rather than itches is desired. I am noticing women are shifting away from taffeta and tulle and looking for ease and wearability.
What are busiest times of the year that you see the spike in bridesmaids gowns or is it year round?
The bridesmaid industry is really year round since women's planning cycles differ based on personality and desire to check things off their "list". January thru March is always booming for summer weddings, but there is always demand as some brides are last minute and some plan years ahead!
Yes, all the twobirds are eco-friendly. The fabric is made here in the US and garment is made locally as well, utilizing efficient green tactics. What's more is that the dress can be worn again and again and thus recyclable!!
How long does it take to create a dress and what are your price ranges?
Each dress is handmade and the prices are $270-$310. There are no alterations required and the dresses come in two sizes, size A (0-14) and size B (16-24) making it an investment piece that women can wear at all cycles of our lives.
Twobirds Bridesmaid is about style, ease and comfort. Finally there is a dress that can make the bride happy and the bridesmaids beam down the aisle. In this economy, why spend money on a dress to never wear again when you can have one dress that wraps in 15 ways flattering most body types?
So no matter if your girls are big or small, short or tall, there will be a perfect dress that will make them proud to walk down the isle, and stand by you as you take your vows. Then they can re-use their dress to party up a storm.

Weddings at Mandarin Oriental, New York - A taste of the orient in NYC

If you’ve ever looked up as you’re walking toward Columbus Circle and seen sparkling lights above, you’ve seen one of the two ballrooms in the Mandarin Oriental and possibly a bride having her dream wedding night come true. The Mandarin Oriental, New York is nestled 280 feet above ground level, is a luxury hotel that simply redefines luxury in Manhattan. Its design and unique location in the Time Warner Center and overlooking Central Park assures its place as one of the city’s most distinct and sophisticated hotels.
Everything about this hotel is perfection and reminds me of the saying “a place for everything and everything in its place”. Fashion designer, Vivienne Tam has designed a spectacular modern fan that is displayed in the hotel lobby and at every turn there is a touch of Asian flair that truly transports you to another country, another time. That’s just the lobby!
The distinct honor of sitting with James Munz, the Associate Director of Catering to discuss in greater detail reasons that may not be obvious why you would consider hosting your wedding at this hotel.
Here is a bit of our extensive conversation:
Mandarin Oriental, New York photo credit: Hechler
The Mandarin Oriental prides it’s self in not only maintaining a certain look of Zen-like tranquility, peace and honor of our guests. Everything from the linen in the guest rooms, to the window views - all designed to create a feeling of floating and peace. What we instill in our staff that exceptional food and service shouldn’t be the ‘selling point’; it is the rule, our ‘normal’. We expect this, provide this and that makes us stand out from the rest. We want to make sure that every moment you are with us, you are receiving exceptional quality in everything we do and from everyone you encounter.
When it comes to our brides, we know that some have dreamed of this moment forever. With that in mind, we do everything within our power to make those dreams come true.
What are the busiest times of year you're seeing brides?
We see brides all year round. The most popular months for NYC weddings are April-June and September-November. Even in this economy, we are beginning to receive reservations for 2010 already. Using our floor to ceiling windows make a picture-perfect backdrop no matter if it’s spring flowers, fall foliage or the winter wonderland that becomes Central Park.
What are the best/signature experiences can a wedding party expect - or most importantly, if a couple is looking for a venue, why would they choose Mandarian Oriental, New York hotel vs. another hotel/venue?
We believe that the view, atmosphere, location, service is unparallel. Our biggest selling point is the focus to detail from the tasting to the timeline of the event. We can work with or without your planner – it’s totally the brides’ choice. Should you have a wedding planner, we will work out every detail with her so that nothing is left to chance, but it’s not necessary to have a planner. We also have an extensive list of florists, photographers and musicians that you can choose from should you need help in that area of your planning. On occasion it’s the little touches such as chairs, or our selection of linens and chinaware, which are the finishing touches that take an event from nice to spectacular.
Tell me about the catering, bridal suite and anything else you want to share with a bride.
We have an extensive catering list so the option of food choices and type of service (seated or passed) is up to the couple. The day after, we hope that you will enjoy breakfast with us and perhaps use the spa services to enjoy the complete wedding experience that we offer.
As someone who has seen a lot of venues I can say that the view for me was one of the selling points. There isn’t any other like in NY. I’m always thinking of ways to capture the ‘once in a lifetime’ moment, looking for venues that will leave you breathless. The thing is, at the Mandarin Oriental there were so many moments that will take your breath away, I would suggest you get a great photographer to help you capture them all.

Top 10 things every couple should do
Posted by Yours In BridalYou will be amazed that ideas will now seem to come from everywhere. Before you run out and put a deposit on the first band you hear, take a breath. Next as a couple, talk about what matters most. Do you want a massive party? Is most popular swing band in town a must? Do you want a 24 piece-tasting menu or is photography, capturing the day the most important?
Here are 10 things that you should have on your 'budget to-do list and if you do these, your life will be much easier.
1 - Establish three or four things that are important and from a budgetary prospective, and number them. This way when another 'great idea' pops up, you can see if it fits in your most important list and you can adjust if you have to.
2 - Talk to your partner about your budget. In this day and age, more and more couples are either getting married a bit older and/or the parents can't afford the blowout that they might have in the past. Set a realistic budget and be honest about what you can pay for. This is supposed to first day of your lives, not the first day of you in the poor house.
3 - Go to your local office supply company and buy a pocketed envelope folder that will hold all of your bills and contracts. If a regular binder is more your cup of tea, then also purchase the clear pockets and tabs, which you will lable for quick location and easy access. You will now have all in one place, all necessary information from your chosen vendors as well as your contracts. If you keep everything in one place, the less likely it is anything will be lost.
4 - Things happen; you know this so be prepared. Create an emergency fund - about 10% of your total wedding budget. This will be here to cover unplanned expenses. Look at it this way, if you don't need it, the extra can go back in the back which is always a great start to a marriage. Or you could use it for an extra special night on your honeymoon. I opt for the former.
5 - Control, Control, Control. I know you're excited, but please control yourself. You'll be surprised that what you wouldn't normally give a second glance to suddenly becomes the thing you absolutely must have. This is the quickest way to blow your budget. Just don't do it.
6 - Don't go with the first vendor you see. Do your homework and shop around. You may be surprised at the bargains you can find. Don't forget to ask what comes with their price and see if they are willing to make adjustments to their packages.
7- Ask for help if you need it. This includes asking you, my favorite grooms. Your job didn't stop at giving her the ring. This is your day as well and I'm sure your bride will be thrilled if you offer to help. Help with the bridal registry today and have a less stressed out bride tomorrow. See, everyone wins.
8 - Schedule it and stick to it. Write it down and remember, "money is time, and time is money."
9 - When you decide to shop for your dress, you should only have one or two people with you on any given time. This is not the time where "the more the merrier". This is an example of too many cooks making you crazy. Of course when you do your fittings, if you want to make it a party with your girlfriends, then by all means.
Finally
10 - Read the fine print and know what you're getting. It may take a bit longer but you must read the contract and then read it again before you sign it. Remember once it's signed you can't say you didn't know.
If you follow these steps, you'll be well on your way to a stress free day. Good Luck!
Until next time...

Eco-Fab honeymoon is a great option.
Posted by Yours In BridalFor your honeymoon – timing is absolutely everything.
