Monique Lhuillier - a meeting to remember.

On Thursday March 19, I met one of the kindest and most amazing designers at Bergdorf Goodman, the one and only (Diane) Monique Lhuillier. While not many designers are approachable, Monique took time to speak to each and every person that attended this intimate showing of her dresses. From bridal editors, to brides-to-be she was kind, warm and gracious to each and every one.

Born to French, Spanish/Filipino parents, Monique was raised in the southern part of the Philippines called Cebu. As a child, Monique was very influenced by her mother's glamorous sense of style and was exposed to the importance of style because the family traveled extensively to her favorite destinations Paris and Los Angeles. At the early age of 15, Monique left home to attend the prestigious Chateau Mont-Choisi boarding school in Lausanne, Switzerland. It was while she was in Switzerland that she decided to pursue her dreams of becoming a designer. She decided to attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) and move to Los Angeles.
While planning her own wedding, she believed that she could create the type of dress that made anyone who wore it feel like a princess. I don’t have to tell you, if you have one of her wearable pieces of art, you do.

Her ready to wear dresses are often seen on the red carpet on some of her celebrity clients: America Ferrera, Katie Holmes, Scarlett Johansson, Jewel, Jada Pinkett Smith, singer Pink and Eva Longoria just to name a few. Recently, she has partnered with Royal Doulton on a collection of dinnerware, stemware, gift ware and flatware.

I won’t tell you that her dresses are inexpensive. In general, the average price range for the bridal collection is about $3,000 to $10,000. If you are thinking of wearing something 'different to wear during your reception, her ready to wear ranges from $2,000 to $8,000. However each bridal piece that I saw was uniquely embellished, belted, or laced. Likewise, each dress was more jaw dropping than the next. You know what, that’s what every bride wants on her special day; to have that effect on her husband-to-be and guests.

No matter if it’s her beautiful bridal, sexy ready to wear, handbag or her table top collection, they wear the stamp of quality and excellence that is truly Lhuillier.

KEY FACT: Remember there are always trunk and sample sales where you can find one of these creations (even if it’s ‘last seasons’) drastically reduced so make sure to go.
