Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to attend a Luxury expo.  When they say luxury, they mean Maserati in the front, sail boat next to that and all the perks that someone with a few dollars to spare could want.  It made me wonder, “How many couples really have this kind of cash for their wedding (or beyond) and want to spend it.”  “Would they know where to go, what to do or who to speak with.”  Because I know you’re busy and well…I had the time, this is a short list of some of the great luxuries you can have if you have it like that.

Maserati is pure luxury.  While it looks ‘pretty cool’, the power when the key turns it over is ‘Va-Roooom’!!  Pure power, but smooth on taking the turns.  It handled wonderfully on the Haute streets of NYC even in traffic.  The only thing that stopped more traffic was people (especially the guys) drooling and quickly taking snaps of the photo with their mobile phone.

FNO: Ways to be careful and still enjoy your Fashion's Night Out

Are you preparing for fashion’s night in NYC or anywhere in the world?  Here are some simple rules to help you maneuver and have fun.

While you want to be “haute”, as you move from shop to shop, be comfortable. If you must be ‘diva(o)’, do it from your ankles up & sensible-stylish shoes on  your feet. There is nothing less attractive than a person with achy feet.  Come on, you know exactly what I mean.

You will NOT be able to travel to every event there is.  Get over it; it’s not possible instead use the FNO map and map out your plan for your favorite shops (or events). I know I must be the only person on the planet who doesn’t have an iPhone, but it doesn’t stop me from finding you a GREAT FNO app.  Keep all your events in order and get the latest updates, super-sales and promos at your fingertips with this Lustra app.

Make your plan with friends to truly share in the energy and excitement that will engulf you during the five-hours of Friday night fun.  Last year, Madison Ave was on fire with shops music and traffic.  It was pretty hard to move from place to place (think crowded train station), but your fearless leader (uh, that’s me) managed.  This leads me to…

Be careful.  Traffic, free cocktails, lots of people – LOTS of people and the festive atmosphere can lead to ‘things happening’.  Watch your purse/wallet, and your physical person.  Be careful on the streets.  Just because there is a party on both sides of the street, doesn’t mean that the streets are closed.  Traffic will still flow.  Follow traffic lights and the rights of the road.

Finally do shop and have fun.  A lot of stores will have FNO t-shirts (40% goes to charity), others will have specialty items and super sales.  This isn’t just a night to see the celebs that will show up (which is totally cool), it’s also a night to give back to your city.  It’s a time to make a difference and yes if you’re really lucky, find a bargain or two.

Remember, no matter how much fun this is, it is just one night.  I’m sure you want to be around for a few million more.

Montreal an ideal destination wedding location pt. 2

Do you have visions of having your wedding in a city that is a pioneer in the area of sustainable tourism? Maybe a short distance from NYC with a true French flair? I have the perfect place in mind for you to consider Montréal, Canada. It is the perfect escape when Paris or the euro isn’t an option. Grange vin+ bouffe - 120 Rue McGill, Old Montréal; 514-394-WINE The beef is amazing and the wine cellar is spectacular. They have a bottle for every budget and honestly, I would highly recommend this for the Beef (so perfect for the guys night) eater in your life.

Schwartz’s - 3895 Saint-Laurent Blvd. 514-842-4813 – You’ve got to stop here for the best ‘smoked meat’ (corn beef and pastrami ever!) sandwich ever. I believe the Reuben sandwich originated here. Thank you Canada!!

Oh no, someone left a dress, shirt (you fill in the blank)! Where should you shop?
Known as the ‘underground city’ because it’s over 20 miles (or roughly over 1,700 shops, 200 restaurants and 40 movie theaters – just in case you have time to take in a movie) of shopping underground. Just enter at the beginning of Ste- Catherine St. and walk toward the über chic boutiques on Sherbrook Street. You will find everything and I do mean everything.

Grooms: If you need a new suit/shirt/or even complete tux Moores located at 1007 Ste. Catherines Ouest 514.845.1548 has it all. I’ve been told they can suit you up in as little as 24hrs.

My favorite wine shop is just at the entrance of Complexe Les Ailes – Saq, M-31-677, rue Ste Catherine 514.282.9445. Here you’ll find those last second bottles of champagne or a rare whiskey to toast your new beginning.

2 oz. SKYY Vodka
0.5 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
0.5 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
0.5 oz. Simple Syrup or 1 tsp. sugar
Drop of Crème de cassis

Rim a crystallized Swarovski martini glass with Crème de cassis and sugar*. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into the martini glass. Finish the cocktail with a drop of Crème de cassis on top.

*To rim the martini glass, first dip rim of glass in a shallow dish filled with Crème de cassis and immediately place rim in another shallow dish with sugar, rotating the glass to ensure the whole rim is covered.

2 oz. SKYY Infusions Ginger
1 oz. Honey Syrup*

I really hope you’ve been enjoying the Fashion week articles. There are only a few more for next week, including some great fashions from some of our fav bridal designers liike Monique Lhuillier. However, I really wanted to take some time today to share all the events I’m finding out about that are happening…well, soon! They are nation wide, so from the east coast to the west coast there is something for you. Let’s start in my hometown…Brooklyn is in the wedding house in full-effect!!

Brooklyn is HAUTE the month of March with several events, truly something for everyone.

This is going to be the premiere wedding event in Brooklyn. Hosted by Brooklyn Brides’ own Vané, Urban Wed is kept intentionally intimate so you can score solid one-on-one time with all attendees. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Did you get engaged yesterday? Well, first of all, congratulations. You are in for lots of excitement, parties, and to be honest…there maybe some sad, frustrating and even aggravating days ahead. It will all be ok, I promise. Just remember to have fun, plan as early as you can and enjoy this time. Trust me, it will pass in the blink of an eye.

So to help you start off the New Year and celebrate your engagement, allow me to introduce you to two people who are surely to make this process easy for you.

Marc Wilson Design. Marc gets to know you, your vision and then brings it to life. When we met this summer – before the colors for 2010 were announced, he told me what he thought would be hot for this upcoming season. Sure enough his predictions were true. If he has that much insight on colors, six months before they are announced, imagine what he can do to make your dreams a reality.

This is not to say that there aren’t lots of wonderful event design houses out there, but remember I don’t and WON’T recommend anyone that I wouldn’t use myself. Marc truly creates an event that is elegance personified.

Twobirds Bridesmaid

Have you already picked your bridesmaids? My suggestion is to make the bridal party as small as possible, but if you can’t, you need dresses that will work for everyone. This means that the dresses you pick are comfy, pretty; in your color scheme, and in a multitude of sizes to compliment every girl and yet, allow them their personal style. When I first saw the dresses by Twobirds Bridesmaid, I wanted one for myself. In three words, these dresses are hot, hot, hot! This company listens to and knows what is flattering to your body and best yet, your girls can and will want to wear these dresses out again and again. Remember the economy isn’t ‘fixed’ yet, so consider this when you are shopping. When you provide an option (wear it once – the wedding, then wear it again) your bridal party will be on board. Who loves ya guys?? I do and can’t wait for you to see what’s happening in the ‘Grooming-the-groom’ column in 2010. I hope you are as excited about it as I am. What this column has done has opened a dialogue for you the grooms (and the women that love you), to read information beyond what’s out there. It’s a different view of what's happening, that I hope you have found helpful and useful to you.

Having met with some great professionals on the ‘groom’ side of the business and here are my top 2009 Grooming The Groom winners.

When it comes to a proper and close shave, there is an art to it. I didn’t realize it until I met Craig. With a nationwide following as well as his own celebrity salon in CA., Craig the barber is the premiere expert in getting that stubborn facial hair under control.

How does he do it – he’s a real guy’s guy who uses simple common sense. What makes him a favorite, he won’t endorse a product he hasn’t tried himself or believe it. Surely that’s why there are lines of men waiting at his shop (and when I met him in NY at an event, guys waiting for up to 1hr) and everywhere he goes, there is a line just to ask him questions and perhaps get his signature shave. I’m very lucky that Craig has also agreed to be one of the celebrity guest writers with me, but you can and should follow him on Facebook or twitter.

Aren’t you tired of ‘those kind of clubs’? You want to hang with your fella’s and have that party where you can have a good scotch, perhaps a stogie and just fun. The thing is, you want to bring it ‘up a notch’ and have a classy event. Well, I know I was supposed to pick just one and if I did, it would have to be the Brandy Library. Since I can’t, I’m giving an ‘alternative to the party’ award to:
The Brandy Library, Carnegie Club, Club Macanudo, ESPN Zone, the 40/40 club and Johnny Utahs. Yes it’s a group award, but I honestly feel that you will find within this group a place for every type of groom. Hey, I’m looking for places in 2010, so if you have a favorite, let me know.

Isn’t it about time you had a product that was for your face, helped you to have a close shave and was made just for you and not the ‘female version' of a product?” Well the people at Lab Series have done just that. Yes, they are an Estee Lauder brand, but they were created for men, by men and have products that have created the easiest way to get a flawless shave, smooth skin and that ‘I’m too sexy for my…” look. I’ll tell you that my husband, brother and best male friend are hooked!! I’m sure you will be too.

Shanghai Tang Groom –
Yes I highlighted them yesterday, but they get my award for innovation in men’s design. If a groom is looking for a unique way to ‘stand out’ at his wedding, then a designed jacket by Shanghai Tang or membership to their Mandarin Collar society is the way to go. I love that they are bring an updated version to their mens' division and they have designers who will personalize the style of your jacket. If you want a traditional black jacket, but a wild plaid lining, consider it done. What’s more, this is something that is also a one-of-a kind and something that you can and will wear long after, your wedding day. It’s worth the investment (and it’s no more expensive than a rental, but definitely looks and smells better!)

OH MY GOSH…TODAY is New Years Day!! Well, Happy New Year to you all. I’m really excited about the people, places and things that I’ve in store for you. You wouldn’t believe the amount of mail I get from you and how many of you stop me at bridal shows to ask me questions. I LOVE IT and please don’t stop. All I can say is, 2010 is going to be AMAZING. I’ve been looking through the almost 200 articles I’ve written since March 1, 2009. I’ve gone through and checked them twice. I’ve compiled my list of some of the many amazing vendors and/or locations I wanted to highlight once again. Why, because some of you are at the very beginning phase and others are toward the end. You never know if one of these vendors could be the answer to that last ‘thing’ you need.

I will say right up front that none of them are compensating me in any way to pick them, re-post anything about them. These are truly just a few of my favorites. This also doesn’t mean that I don’t love them all and think that they are all worthy it’s just…well, I wanted to do a round-up.

The Crosby Street Hotel - NYC

There are so many hotels, but I absolutely love the Crosby Street Hotel, NYC because of its British flare and fun. From a proper Hi-Tea, to a martini perfectly shaken, to your own private screening room, this is the place for you. Also, I picked this hotel because of their commitment to the environment as they will soon become GOLD LEED by the US Green Building Council making it one of the first hotels in NY to do so. We love a GREEN hotel that exceeds our comfort expectations right?

The Shorham Hotel, NYC – Chic, sophisticated and the ability to have your own red-rope makes this a modern space where the only limits would be based on your imagination.If you are looking for a little south beach flavor, the Shoreham is the place for an evening cocktail and where you can enjoy a little bit of Miami in midtown NYC.

The Liberty Hotel, Boston, MA – Gives new meaning to a lifetime commitment. A converted prison in the historic Beacon Hill section of Boston is beautiful. Exposed brick and yes even some of the original jail bars add a unique touch and added fun for your pictures.

The Crosby Street Hotel NYC brings London to US brides

Tucked away on a cobble-stoned street amply called Crosby Street is the newly opened Crosby Street Hotel. From the moment you enter you are transported from the busy streets of Soho, to charm of London. There is so much to take in almost immediately. The giant lettered head sculpture, the paper-Mache cartooned dogs and the fabric on the walls calling you to touch them. Yet all of this is perfectly matched as Jazz plays softly through their soundsystem.

The Crosby Street Hotel New York, is the newest gem of the Firmdale Hotel (UK) collection and gem it is. Located in Soho between Prince and Spring, the Crosby hotel takes into account the charm of Soho and adds a British twist. The interior design and unique décor is the passion of award winning Kit Kemp, owner of the London based Firmdale Hotels herself. There are also unique sculptures by Jaune Plensa that you will adore and be amazed by.

As luck would have it, or maybe it was simply asking because of this article, I was given the grand tour of this luxury hotel by Craig Markham Dir of Marketing and PR.

First and foremost and I know a lot of hotels say this but you will truly have personalized service. Here like in their UK locations you will receive “white-gloved” service that is an unexpected pleasure. There are 86 unique and individualized bedrooms and suites on the 11 floors each having high ceilings and full length, ceiling to floor warehouse-styled windows. There is a drawing room with fireplace, courtyard gardens, and a state of the art screening room (just in case you want to show a movie of how you met).

“The goal was to create a place with comfort at every corner. Every room or suite has everything amenity that you could possibly need; we try our best to exceed our guests expectations. By creating a garden oasis we have made sure that none of the rooms are opened to a ‘wall’. There will always be natural light streaming through the rooms or the twinkle of the lights from the garden at night. Every detail was created to make sure that your stay would be memorable.

In any of the private event rooms you can have the privacy you desire with all the opulence you could dream of. Use the “Lafayette room” for your welcome cocktail and then use both the Prince and Spring rooms for your dinner and dancing. I really love the idea of hosting a private ‘movie’ using the screening room.” How many other places can offer you this – your very own movie theater for the night??

Finally, this hotel is committed to you, your guests and the environment as they will soon become GOLD LEED by the US Green Building Council making it one of the first hotels in NY to do so. So you can feel good about having your wedding, rehearsal dinner or any event here as if you needed another reason.

I’ll say that I have a fondness for things British. I attended graduate school there, ‘found myself’ there, and go back when time and the dollar conversion allow. The whimsical details, charm and proper high tea at The Crosby reminded me of some of the best days of my life. Long live the Queen, and long may The Crosby Hotel reign.
