We're in the process of moving...

Hi everyone.
First I wanted to thank you for reading this wedding blog.  It is what I love, what I'm passionate about and given the response...what you like too.

Over the last few months, I've been moving content over to a new site that I'm hoping you'll love just as much.  It still has some tweeks to go, but I'm hoping that you'll move with me.

Yours In Bridal will have all of the articles you've read over the past 2 years and SO MUCH MORE!!  I'm finalizing articles with industry leaders, destinations and of course, the best-latest-greatest in trunk shows, sales and events worldwide.  I will continue to make things as "EASY" for you my couples as I can.  So why move...because I want to continue to stretch myself, the company and to provide you with the best there is.

Because I'm now taking on a ton more responsibility, I'll be posting new content ONLY on Yours in Bridal moving forward.  This site will stay up and hopefully if you've just discovered me...you'll visit Yours in Bridal for the latest news and stay for a while.

For those of you who are subscribers here, please subscribe on at our new home.

So thank you very much and I can't wait to show you what's happening next.

Bride and Groom luxury items New York style

Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to attend a Luxury expo.  When they say luxury, they mean Maserati in the front, sail boat next to that and all the perks that someone with a few dollars to spare could want.  It made me wonder, “How many couples really have this kind of cash for their wedding (or beyond) and want to spend it.”  “Would they know where to go, what to do or who to speak with.”  Because I know you’re busy and well…I had the time, this is a short list of some of the great luxuries you can have if you have it like that.
There is power under them-thar wheels. Maserati Granturismo Convertible
Maserati is pure luxury.  While it looks ‘pretty cool’, the power when the key turns it over is ‘Va-Roooom’!!  Pure power, but smooth on taking the turns.  It handled wonderfully on the Haute streets of NYC even in traffic.  The only thing that stopped more traffic was people (especially the guys) drooling and quickly taking snaps of the photo with their mobile phone.
This convertible is the latest generation in the four-seat convertible history. This baby has 433hp, 4.7 ltr V8 engine, can top-out at 176 mph and six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters that delivers thoroughbred performance.  Things I loved included the touch-screen capacity that allows you to open doors, have the perfect set of tunes playing and speakerphone capability.  This company keeps your safety in mind.
If you can’t’ afford a Maserati (yet), they have some really cool gift items that would be wonderful to hold on to until you can get the really big toy.    $135.000
Don’t want to drive – take to the air in style
Sometimes taking to the air in a private jet, and traveling in style is more affordable than you think.  If you are traveling as a small group to a destination wedding, how about flying with Flexjet?

For over 15 years, Flexjet provided fractional 'ownership' allowing you to book and truly leave on a jet plane at your leisure and in pure comfort.   Originally only for corporate raiders, they now offer by the hour jet cards through the Flexjet 25 jet card program (operated by Jet Solutions).  This means you can literally buy hours, to be used whenever you want.  Want to fly to Napa for a glass of wine – done.  Need some sun in Miami to tan – done.  Craving for pizza (after your wedding naturally) and want to go to Chicago – No problem.

You can easily use their interactive models to create your own travel program. So it it's flying just the two of you or up to 10 of your closest friends, you will travel in comfort.

Flexjet has teamed up with Iron Chef Morimoto for the Ultimate Napa Valley Gift experience.  Imagine private flying to Napa and then having a private dinner, cooking lesson and sake tasting with a master chef.  Chef Morimoto and Meadowood Napa Valley are offering this ultimate experience, which includes Taste OF Napa Valley events, wine tastings, a hosted dinner party.  Not inexpensive, this starts at $124,900,

How about staying close to home
Club Macanudo is the premiere cigar lounge in New York City.  This was a hot spot during the early 90’s when the cigar craze took off and more women were puffing away.  While the number of woman may have diminished, Club Macanudo continues to thrive.  With its comfy leather chairs, over 130 varieties of cigars and a large list of wines and spirits, this is the club of choice to those in the know.
It’s not just about the cigars (even though they are premium) or scotch. They have a wonderful restaurant and full service menu (I would recommend the lamb or the burger – both yummy) and the warm chocolate truffles or Tuxedo Bombe (chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate) for dessert.
There is a private room for your own gathering, and if you really enjoy private humidors for you to lease.  What a wonderful way to celebrate your bacelor (or bachelorette) party, rehearsal dinner or just a night with family and friends.

Douglas Hannant creates a winter wonderland 2011 bridal collection for the chic bride

Douglas Hannant and I had a chat during fashion week when he hinted at his excitement for this upcoming bridal season.  He said he wanted to create a 2011 collection for a strong; no holds bared kind of bride.  So you can imagine the surprise of walking into the Plaza hotel Edwardian Room to see trees and …snow?  For a spring collection? Always known to make a statement the first model strut her stuff in a silk crepe and satin trim tuxedo.  Yes, that was absolutely an attention grabber as each of the pieces that followed.

From the tux to feathers to tiered organza skirts, each piece said “This is my wedding day and I’m doing it my way”.  What stuck me was the detail; simply yet stunning.  The drama came from an embroidered dodice or a simple front with a plunging back.  The veils were cage bird like and in some instances, no veil at all.  It was refreshing that there was a mix of traditional yet daring to be different.  Who says you must have a veil or hat, or your hair has to be in a sweet and perfect bun?  Definitely not Douglas.

Douglas Hannant creates for a woman who knows her self, loves to walk just outside of the box, looks effortlessly amazing, is bold and oh yea…she is a bride too.

Wine Wednesday: Wishing you Happy New Year from Skyy and Moet & Chandon

Last week, I said that would be my last Wine Wednesday post.  Well, my friends from Skyy and Moet & Chandon sent me such yummy New Years ideas that I couldn’t resist. I love these two brands and think that they are an absolute must have for your holiday celebration, as well as any, no all of your wedding parties.  Today I’m sharing great engagement cocktail ideas from these brands.  You should absolutely keep both of these in your home… to celebrate each other.
As we go into 2011, I want you to enjoy your engagement.  I really want you to have the marriage that you dare to dream of.  Love is so special and when you find the ‘divine right person’ for you, hold on to each other.  Savor your love and friendship like the finest champagne.
So this IS the last Wine Wednesday post for 2010.  I can’t wait to bring you some of the newest creations from the makers of the finest spirits in the world.  If there is something that you want more (or less) of, then let me know.  Until then, may your troubles be light, your heart happy and your cup full.  Happy, Happy New Year.
Remember to please drink responsibly.
CHERRY BERRY AMORE
1 oz SKYY Infusions Cherry Vodka
2 tbsp Raspberry Preserves
4-5 frozen Raspberries
Top with Moet & Chandon Imperial

Gently muddle the Raspberry Preserves and frozen Raspberries with SKYY Infusions Cherry Vodka in a mixing pint.  Add ice and shake.  Strain into two champagne flutes and top both glasses with Moet & Chandon Imperial.  Garnish with Lemon Zest.

Cider Bellini
By Kim Haasarud, 101 Champagne Cocktails
Moet & Chandon Imperial
1oz Apple Juice
1oz Simple Syrup
1/2oz Cognac
Dash of Ground Cinnamon
Dash of Ground Allspice
Dash of Ground Cloves
Thin Red Apple Slice, for garnish

Place red apple slice in champagne flute and set aside. Combine the apple juice, simple syrup, cognac, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously, and strain into the champagne flute over the red apple slice. Top off with champagne.

I love this for the day after New Year…or truthfully, it’s baking in my house now.

Rustic Apple Tarts Infused with SKYY Infusions Ginger
Serves 4

1 tbsp. SKYY Infusions Ginger
1/3 cup and 0.5 tablespoon Sugar
1/2 cup Apple Cider or Apple Juice
1 tbsp. Cider Vinegar
1 lb. Small Gala Apples (about 4; left unpeeled)
1 Frozen Puff Pastry Sheet (from a 17 1/4-oz package), thawed
3 tbsp. Unsalted Butter

Preheat oven to 425°F.  Cook 1/3 cup sugar in a dry, 10-inch heavy skillet over moderate heat, undisturbed, until it begins to melt. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally with a fork, until sugar is melted into a pale golden caramel. Tilt skillet and carefully pour in cider and vinegar (caramel will harden and steam vigorously). Simmer over moderately low heat, stirring occasionally, until caramel is dissolved.

While syrup simmers, cut apples into 1/8-inch-thick slices. Add apple slices to hot syrup in skillet, gently tossing to coat. Remove from heat and let stand, stirring occasionally, until apples are wilted by syrup, 5 to 10 minutes.  While apples stand, roll out puff pastry sheet into a 12-inch square on a lightly floured surface with a floured rolling pin. Cut into quarters, forming 4 (6-inch) squares and brush off excess flour from both sides.

Transfer squares to a large, shallow baking pan, overlapping if necessary (squares will fit without touching after edges are folded in later).  Drain apples in a sieve set over a bowl (save the syrup), then place apple slices decoratively on each square, leaving a 3/4-inch border all around. Fold border over apples along edges, pinching edges together as necessary, then dot tops of apples with a total of 1 tablespoon butter and sprinkle with remaining 1/2 tablespoon sugar.  Bake tarts until apples are tender, pastry is puffed, and edges and undersides are golden brown, 25 to 30 minutes. While tarts bake, boil reserved syrup in skillet with SKYY Infusions Ginger and remaining 2 tablespoons butter until thickened and reduced to about 1/3 cup. Brush or drizzle hot syrup over tarts. Serve with vanilla ice cream.

Romona Keveza sets the stage for couture glamour with her 2011 collection

I’m convinced that Romona Keveza doesn’t sleep.  She had a successful ready-to-wear collection and then she created two different bridal lines.  She is truly a special kind of designer.  The fall 2011 legends collection takes on the glamour of Camelot and elegance of the former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy.

Once again Romona has captured glamour that ranges from short and sassy to full ball gowns that have amazing movement as the models walked.  The legends collection features classic chic and underscored by modern minimalism.  This is a marriage of Parisian style all with American girl spirit.
Her second collection begins with “Darling, won’t you join me?” The collection inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s portrayal of Holly Golightly and the Aristocratic soirées of the 1960’s NY high society.  Each piece in the collection really was a throw back in time where women wore gloves, and weren’t scared to wear something a bit more ‘shocking’ yet looked as if they effortlessly stepped off a fashion page.

Playful lengths, colors and cuts, bold and feminine touches, equal luxury and unassuming grace.  The Keveza bride won’t play by the rules…she creates them.  One of my favorites is a new spin on the ‘little black dress’.  Who am I kidding?  I love the entire collection.

Quick Beauty Fixes for the Holiday Hangover

I can't believe that it's just a few days before Christmas and New Years eve...already. Seems like it was just September and now, I can actually see the New Year just a few days away. So I know that you will be partying, some of you may receive a little something “shiny” and in your excitement, may forget that taking care of your skin is an ‘every-day-kind-of-thing’ especially as you begin to plan for your wedding.  So here are some tips that I hope will help you.

The Night Before

Take the easy way out: Reach for KORRES® Natural Products Milk Proteins Makeup Removal Wipes.  These soft wipes gently and effectively remove all traces of face and eye makeup.  Rich in essential amino acids, milk proteins offer nourishing and moisturizing benefits, while Aloe and pro-vitamin B5 soothe the skin and reduce redness and irritation.
Go on the defensive: If you wear contact lenses, opt for a daily disposable lens you can throw out at the end of the night.  Your eyes will look and feel better with a clean, fresh lens the next day. New 1-DAY ACUVUE® TruEyeTM combines the gold standard in comfort (silicone hydrogel) with the flexibility and freshness of a daily disposable.

In The AM:

Perform a vanishing act: Whiten your peepers with VISINE® Maximum Redness Relief Formula®(You can find at your local drug store) so no one knows how much fun you had last night.  This amazing long-lasting HYDROBLEND Formula acts like natural tears to provide up to 10 hours of comfort.  I would also recommend that you give your eyes a break.  Leave your contacts out for the day and break out your old eyeglasses.  Trust me, your eyes will thank you.

Makeup is your new BFF: You can read a party all over your face – puffy, patchy, wrinkly, and splotchy – it’s so not pretty.  Create a bright, polished palette with KORRES® Natural Products Quercetin and Oak Face Primer.  This silicone-free skin-perfecting primer treats wrinkles to provide a smooth, even surface for long-lasting makeup.

IF you don’t want to go full make-up, fake a healthy flush: Dust the apples of your cheeks with KORRES® Natural Products Zea Mays Powder Blush in Peach.  Your dry skin will benefit from the botanical blend, including zea mays (corn), soy and licorice, all while sporting a smooth, long-lasting glow.

Bring on the light: Apply a shimmery light shadow to the inner corners of the eyes to reflect light and instantly brighten eyes. KORRES® Antioxidant Sunflower & Hydrating Evening Primrose “Cool” Eye Palette offers both a white and a silver option to choose from.

Give yourself a lift: Pull your hair up into a youthful ponytail, which will give your facial features a “mini-lift”. Goody has great and “safe for hair” ouchless hair products in so many different colors, you can find one to match yours. (You can find at your local drug store)

Ok so Happy Holidays to you and more importantly may all your wishes come true.

(All products can be purchased at at korresusa.com and SEPHORA unless otherwise noted.)

Hotel Chantelle adds 'Mad Men' style to NYC lower east side

Don't let the name fool ya...while you may never want to leave, there are no rooms for check-in at Hotel Chantelle, a high-end cocktail lounge that is reminiscent of an age of post-war subtle glamour and festive spirit. Named after a safe house, employed as part of an ‘underground railroad’ during World War II by the French Resistance, Hotel Chantelle adds a modern touch to beloved classics, from the interior to the menu—an elegant interior that reinvents timeless style sets the stage for a menu that crafts a fresh take on traditional mainstays.

Inside, an air of nostalgia is met with modern chic sophistication— Hotel Chantelle’s dark, dashing décor is one part Mad Men, one part downtown cool and all parts must-visit evening haunt. Constructed and designed by co-owner, Benjamin Shih, Hotel Chantelle’s interior is comprised of reclaimed wood and materials that reaches as far back as the 1700s. You can tuck yourself away into the plush deep burgundy leather pin-tucked banquettes and booths, accompanied by classic wooden tabletops and chairs, or have the classic kidney-shape bar with super low countertop. The lighting casts a sultry spell throughout the space— the flicker of exposed bulbs and shell lamps are met with a subtle glow from the whimsical wallpaper (a dark print with golden leaves and roses) overhead.

The Hotel Chantelle cocktail menu features fourteen variations on classic cocktails, such as the Sidecar and Gimlet, each with an original palette-pleasing twist. Sure-to-be signature favorites include The Bramble (a blackberry sour), Dakota (champagne cocktail made with white peaches) and Pink Russian (a classic Russian cocktail with fresh raspberries). What, cocktails not your ‘cup of tea’, there is a fully stocked bar and a large selection of beers.

I happened to spend a wonderful evening there and the vibe is very manly….but the ladies loved it too.  I would highly recommend that if you are looking for a sophisticated place for an evening to remember, then stop by Hotel Chantelle.  Great for grooms who want to bring their bachelor party up a notch or 12.  I’ll also tell you that they are in the process of completing a roof-top that will be accessible year-round.  Can’t wait for that to open!

2010 Gift 'Give' Guide

How about giving a gift, that will really help others?  Here are some recommendations of organizations that you may not know of....

I am a fan of Lauren Bush and her participation in Feed. This year, they have created a Guatemala 3 Large Ikat Tote, $39, available at Lord and Taylor.  For every bag that is purchased, they Feed will donate $10.50 to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to support UNICEF'S nutrition programs in Guatemala.

This is in honor of designer and friend Tory Burch and the Tory Burch Foundation, which helps provide economic opportunities to women and their families in the U.S. Tory has created a Charm Bracelet and all profits from the bracelet will benefit the Tory Burch Foundation.  This is one of the very few – if not only…anything I’ve ever seen of this quality product, where the entire purchase price will go to charity.   She has other products as well on the site, so check them out.
While in Montreal last week I remembered a great shop my mom took me to in North Carolina. Ten Thousand Villages has an incredible collection of absolutely unique fair-trade gifts from around the world, and work to create opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by bringing their products and compelling stories to market. You get to be a star with the perfect gift while knowing you did something, to help someone in need.   I’m sure there is a shop near you and remember…it does take a village. If you must give a take-a-way at your wedding, one of the great items they have will surely be perfect.

Wine Wednesday: Chambord anyone?

This past weekend, I was in Montreal attending the Bridal Boudoir conference, which is the wedding industry premiere bridal event in Montreal.  There is so much to share.  Lots of interesting trends that I’d love to see make their way to the US and while I get those articles ready, I’m feeling like my Wine Wednesday should reflect an elegant French inspired cocktail.

Chambord Black Raspberry Liqueur is an all-natural raspberry liqueur produced in the Loire Valley of France. This lush, rich and very sweet cognac is often misunderstood, but I do believe will offer an elegant addition to your wedding events.  Known as the bottle with the gold crown, it is surely fit for a king and queen.  I hope you enjoy some of these cocktails, the yummy brownies and especially during this holiday season, please drink responsibly.

French Martini
1 1/2 oz Finlandia Vodka
1/2 oz Chambord Liqueur
3 oz Pineapple Juice
Shake ingredients with ice and strain into martini glass. Garnish with raspberries.

Chambord® Cosmopolitan
1 oz Finlandia Vodka
1/2 oz Chambord Liqueur
1/2 oz Orange Liqueur
1 1/4 oz Cranberry Juice
1/4 oz Fresh Lime Juice
Shake ingredients with ice and strain into martini glass. Garnish with a raspberry.

Chambord® Velvet Jack
1 1/2 oz Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey
1/2 oz Chambord Liqueur
3 oz Sour Mix
Shake ingredients with ice and strain into rocks glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Holiday gift ideas for the bride or her bridal party

Ok, so you may have had a blast (or avoided) Black Friday, or taken to your keyboard (or decided it was time to hand-write all day) for Cyber Monday.  No matter what you did, the holidays and growing number of newly engaged couples are just around the corner. Here are some of my holiday gift ideas for the bride, bridal party and even the mom’s. Tomorrow there will be more. I hope you enjoy them.
Joya’s first foray into artisanal fine fragrance worked out wonderfully with ceramic artist Sarah Cihat to create two beautiful bottles filled with equally beautiful fragrances.  These so beautiful and a wonderful gift to the bride – is the handcrafted porcelain (Black is Comp #6 and White is Comp #5) bottle and 22k gold dipped wand.  Luxury by any other name wouldn’t be as sweet.
Utilizing chains with shimmer and stones with saturated color, these pieces convey a sense of luxury and richness found during this festive time of year. I think some of these would be lovely gifts for the bridal party as well as perhaps something special for your future mother (and sister) in law.  Prices range from $39 to $220. The Holiday Collection is currently available on her web site.
Azuri is my new favorite line of wraps, shawls and scarves created from the finest natural fabrics including silk, chiffon, wool, pashmina, cashmere, charmeuse, organic cotton, linen and bamboo. The Azuri range is perfect anytime but especially for brides and bridal parties as the wraps and shawls provide warmth, and add a touch of elegance to any outfit.  Remember just because you’re having an island destination wedding, it does get chilly.  Honestly, these are just perfect anytime for anyone.  They have over 110 color options, so there is a color for everyone.

Mar Y Sol
Speaking of destination weddings, these cute and colorful clutches are a great accent for the bridal party and ideal for a tropical island setting!  Mar Y Sol has tons on their website including some that are more ‘beachy’ if that’s the look you’re going for.
There will be more tomorrow, so see you then...

Known for designing a sophisticated silhouette, this season the Carvalli designs feature Swarovski crystal embellishments, blended with luxurious fabrics creating a contemporary ad classic style.  These styles are truly timeless and their elegance combines with his signature style are surprisingly affordable.
